Elijah performed seven miracles during his life. Elisha performed thirteen. Both divided the Jordon River and they each raised a dead child to life. The last miracle credited to Elisha was the most unusual. 2 Kings 13 says, “Elisha died and was buried…Once while some Israelites were burying a man…they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet” (verses 20-21). Truly Elisha inherited a double portion of Elijah’s anointing.
Solomon asked for wisdom. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s anointing. Both received what they asked for. What are you asking for?
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
— Matthew 7:7 (NIV 1984)
Lord Jesus, give us a double portion of the Holy Spirit. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
