When Elijah arrived in Zarephath the first person he saw was a poor widow—what we might call a bag lady. When he asked her for a drink of water and a piece of bread, she broke down weeping. “As surely as the LORD your God lives, I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die” (1 Kings 17:12).
Little did she know that she was about to receive a lesson in the economy of the Kingdom. What we keep never grows but what we give away never runs out!
Lord Jesus, give us faith to be obedient no matter the risk. Amen.
