I have no idea how Elijah felt asking that poor widow for her last morsel of food (1 Kings 17:13), but I know how I felt when a young couple handed me a handful of coins at the conclusion of service one Sunday morning. I was scared. I was afraid their faith was misplaced, and I felt like it was my fault for preaching on Elijah and the widow. They were in Bible College, and this was all the money they had—just over $3 in change. Their rent and utilities were due, and their cupboards were bare. They gave all they had, every last penny, trusting the Lord to supernaturally supply their needs.
“Don’t be afraid…For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: “the jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry…””
— 1 Kings 17:13
Lord Jesus, I am praying for those in financial need right now. Increase their faith and supply all their needs. Amen.
