When I’m comfortable and well fed I want to stay put. Maybe Elijah was like that too. Maybe that’s why God allowed the brook to dry up (1 Kings 17:7). Maybe that was the only way Elijah would have been willing to go to a widow in Zarephath (1 Kings 17:9), considering it was a 100-mile hike through a blistering wasteland.

Take a look at your situation. Are you continuing to flourish or is the brook drying up. If things are changing, ask yourself “Is this an attack of the enemy or is God trying to get my attention? Is God prompting me to make a change or is it time to dig in and hold steady through this difficult season?” The key to your future is to hear and obey.

“Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says.”

— Revelation 2:7 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, speak the Word so that we might hear and obey. Amen.
