Although our righteous acts can never justify us we are still called to live a godly life and to abstain from fleshly lust (1 Peter 2:11). What makes us righteous however is not our lifestyle, but the perfect righteousness of Christ that has been credited to us through faith in His finished work. Succinctly put: the security of our salvation is in the finished work of Jesus Christ and not our daily walk. The key to living an overcoming life is to focus on what Jesus has done for us rather than on what we are doing for Him.
