The psychological wounds we suffer as children leave us haunted with self-doubt. Your father teases you about having knobby knees or being overweight. You are repeatedly thumped on the head for eating with your mouth open. You are told time and again that you will never amount to anything. Soon you begin to see yourself as unworthy and no amount of success in later life can totally free you from the long shadow of inferiority. No matter what you accomplish it will never be enough. Your only hope of escaping this trap is to build your self-image on your identity in Christ.
“You are in Christ Jesus, who has becomeā¦our righteousness, holiness and redemption.”
— 1 Corinthians 1:30 (NIV)
Lord help us to build our self-image only on our identity in Christ. Amen.
