Whatever your age, whether you are preparing to graduate from High School or College, launching your career, or making a mid-life career change, I want to challenge you to make a life not just a living. If you spend your life, only making a living you may end up like the banker who, upon retiring, was lamenting giving forty years of his life to something he despised. He said, “I’ve given my entire life to something I never enjoyed, and I can’t get it back!” Let me say it again, “Make a life not just a living.”
“Better one handful with tranquility
— Ecclesiastes 4:6 (NIV 1984)
than two handfuls with toil
and chasing after the wind.”
Lord give us the wisdom to discern the difference between making a living and making a life. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
