The Law of Moses was not given to save us. It was given to show us how helpless we are to save ourselves. Even if we could keep the commandments perfectly for the rest of our life—which of course we can’t—the Law still could not save us. Galatians 2:16 (NLV) says, “We have been made right with God because of our faith in Christ and not by obeying the Law. No man can be made right with God by obeying the Law.” But what we cannot do for ourselves God did for us by sending Jesus to die for us.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners. Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8 (NIV 1984)
Lord, thank you for doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Amen.
