When we read the Bible devotionally, we do so in order to answer three questions. First, “What is the historical setting?” The second question is, “What does this passage say about God?” The third question is more personal: “What does this passage say to me about my spiritual condition, about my life and my standing with God?” When we read the Scriptures, we need to act on what we are learning. As Richard Foster says, “When we come to the Scripture we come to be changed, not to amass information.”
“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”
— Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus, use the Word to shape us, to conform us to Your very own image. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
