During my life, I have suffered several broken relationships. Each time I grieved but I was also tempted with anger and/or self-pity. Still as I examine those painful experiences in retrospect, I can see how God has used them to conform me more fully to the image of His dear son. The key was to “own” my part—that is to honestly examine myself and take responsibility for my actions. Where I was in the wrong, I had to apologize and make restitution. When the brokenness was the fault of others I had to forgive. Do that and God can redeem all our mistakes even the most painful ones.
“Even my close friend, who I trusted…has lifted up his heel against me.”
— Psalm 41:9 (NIV 1984)
Lord, heal our wounded souls and restore our broken relationships. Amen.
