Do you have any idea what it means to hunger and thirst for righteousness? Probably not. Few of us have ever known real hunger. And if we have never known real hunger, we will be hard pressed to appreciate what Jesus means when He says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness” (Matthew 5:6). What Jesus is saying here, according to William Barclay is: “Blessed is the man who longs for righteousness as a starving man longs for food, and as a man perishing of thirst longs for water.”
Let me ask you a question. “How bad do you want God?”
“As the deer pants for streams of water,
— Psalm 42:1 (NIV)
so my soul pants for you, my God.”
Fill us with Your presence Lord for we are hungering and thirsting for You. Amen.
