Do you know anyone whose goal is to be meek? Probably not even though Jesus said the meek were blessed (Matthew 5:5). Maybe it’s because in the ensuing centuries since Jesus made that pronouncement the term “meek” has taken on negative connotations. To most of us it is likened to timidity or even weakness. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In the context in which Jesus was speaking meekness literally means to be tamed by the Holy Spirit.

“Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”

— Galatians 5:16 (NLT)

Lord, if we are honest many of us must admit that we are strong willed people. We want our own way. Bring our strong wills under the control of Your Holy Spirit. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
