Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and theologian, courageously took a stand to protect Jews against persecution in Nazi Germany, saying, “Christ wills that the weak and persecuted should be rescued, and He must be obeyed.”2 Because of his stand, he could no longer support the German state church. He helped create a new fellowship called the Confessing Church and led an illegal seminary. He eventually became active in the resistance movement, which led to his arrest and execution.

Are you willing to obey Christ even at the risk of your life?

“I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me.”

— Acts 20:24 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, help us make obedience to Your will the consuming passion of our life. Amen.
