The first mistake Moses made was assuming his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them (Acts 7:25). The second mistake he made was to take matters into his own hands. When he saw one of the Hebrews being mistreated by an Egyptian, he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian (Acts 7:24). When he realized his crime was known, he fled to Midian, where he spent the next forty years in exile on the backside of the desert.
“…‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
–Zechariah 4:6 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, forgive us for all the times we’ve taken matters into our own hands and made a mess. Remind us that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
