Failure is a harsh teacher, but the lessons it teaches us are invaluable. Before he failed miserably in his first attempt to deliver the Israelites, Moses was a proud, self-sufficient man. He “…was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action” (Acts 7:22). Following his traumatic fall from “grace” he not only lost his swagger, but he developed a speech impediment. In Exodus 4:10 he says, “I am slow of speech and tongue.” Through failure he learned to rely on the Lord rather than depending on his natural gifts.

“The Lord said to him…‘Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.’”

— Exodus 4:11, 12 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, help us to learn from our failures. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
