Although both the Old and New Testament contain scores of names for God none is more intimate than the name by which Jesus knew Him. Jesus called God “Father” or “Our Father which art in heaven” (Mt. 6:9). With the phrase “which art in heaven” He sets Father God apart from all human fathers. Our heavenly Father possesses the best characteristics of our earthly fathers but none of their weaknesses or limitations. He is superior to them in every way. Well did Jesus say,
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
— Matthew 7:11 (NIV)
Father God, forgive us for doubting Your love and provision. Help us to trust Your Father heart completely. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
