When Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them to pray (Luke 11:1) He gave them what is commonly known as the “Lord’s Prayer” (Matt. 6:9-23 and Lu. 11:2-4). It is more than just words to memorize and recite. It is a strategy for praying. It begins by acknowledging who God is—“Our Father in heaven”—and moves to kingdom concerns. Things like the hallowing of His name, the coming of His kingdom and the doing of His will on earth as it is done in heaven. Next it focuses on the things we need—daily bread and forgiveness. Finally, it is a prayer for victory over temptation. Let me challenge you to pray this prayer and see what happens!

“Jesus told his disciples that they should always pray and not give up.”

— Luke 18:1 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, help us to realize that the power of our prayers rest entirely on the One to whom we pray. Amen.
