As I write this there are bare shelves in our grocery stores. There are supply line delays with more than one hundred container ships unable to unload at our overcrowded ports and there is a critical shortage of long-haul truckers. Retailers and politicians are warning us that Christmas will be different this year. In light of that, C.S. Lewis’ line, “It was always winter but never Christmas” is especially haunting. Truthfully, Christmas is the only thing that makes the winter of our discontent bearable. Of course, I am not talking about the silliness of Santa Claus but the birth of the Savior!

“Do not be afraid. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”

— Luke 2:10-11 (NIV)

Heavenly Father, we refuse to fear because you are with us! In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
