What can we learn from Moses’ misguided attempt to deliver the Israelites from Egyptian bondage? Planning must precede action. Apparently, Moses was so anxious to be about the Lord’s business that he acted without a prepared plan. This is a common mistake for over eager leaders. They have little patience for planning and no time or interest in dealing with details. They simply assume that everyone else shares their vision and accepts their leadership—which is seldom the case. As a result, their efforts have little chance of succeeding. The resulting disaster often leaves them broken and embittered.
“A man’s own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the Lord.”
— Proverbs 19:3 (NIV 1984)
Lord, give us the wisdom and the patience to make careful plans. Amen.
