As a young pastor I spent weeks sometimes, even months, seeking the Lord’s direction for the church. Once I felt confident that I knew what the Lord wanted us to do I presented it to the official board. Although it had taken me weeks or even months to come to a conclusion, I expected the official board to reach a decision in a couple of hours. When they didn’t, I grew frustrated, and I was tempted to think they lacked faith and vision. In reality I was the problem. I had not prepared them to make an informed decision, nor had I allowed them to participate in the decision-making process. Like Moses’ I simply assumed they would know I had heard from the Lord.
“Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.”
— Acts 7:25 (NIV)
Lord, teach us to prepare the people to follow our leadership. Amen.
