Bear with me. I want to ask you to do the unthinkable. Image that your fiancé or your spouse has been unfaithful. Imagine they have cheated on you, broken their wedding vows. How would that make you feel? Betrayed? Heartbroken? That’s how God feels when we sin! To sin is to transgress the law of God, but the real tragedy is that when we sin, we break God’s heart. That’s why the scriptures describe Israel’s idolatry and/or our sinfulness as “whoring” or “adultery.” Ezekiel writes,

“The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man…5 “Oholah engaged in prostitution while she was still mine …11 “Her sister…was [even] more depraved…”

— Ezekiel 23:1-2; 5 and 11 (NIV)

Lord, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to break your heart. Forgive me I pray. Amen.
