Given David’s giftedness—he was a musician, a poet, a fearless warrior and an inspiring leader—it is hard to imagine that he was not ambitious, but he wasn’t. He never aspired to be king and that may be the very reason the Lord chose him.
He had several opportunities to take matters into his own hands but he never did. If God didn’t make him king he wanted no part of it.
What about you? Are you trusting the Lord to direct your steps or are you taking matters into your own hands?
“The LORD will work out his plans for my life….”
— Psalm 138:8 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, root out all personal ambition from my life. Help me to trust You alone with my future. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
