You may be struggling to forgive those who’ve wronged you because it doesn’t seem to work. You forgave them, or at least you think you did, but a few days later you recalled another hurtful incident and the old feelings come rushing back. What’s going on? Forgiving others is often a process rather than a single event. If you are faithful to forgive each time you recall another hurt you will soon walk in freedom. The process of forgiving will do its healing work. Give it time.

“‘Lord how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’”

— Matthew 18:21-22 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, fill our hearts with love and compassion so that forgiveness overflows out of us. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
