Even after circumstances have made denial not only futile, but also foolish, we are still tempted to protest our innocence and to rationalize our behavior. Why? Because we don’t trust God’s unconditional love; we don’t believe He will bless us unless we are good enough. But God does not bless us because we are good but because He is good!
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
— Luke 18:13-14 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, teach us to trust Your unconditional love and humble ourselves so You can bless us. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
