The ministry of comfort is especially hard for men. It’s hard for a man to sit and wait; to watch, powerless, as death does its dirty work. A man wants to do something, anything. He wants to exert his authority, regain control of his world, but that’s not possible. He often ends up pretending the one he loves isn’t dying. That may provide a temporary reprieve, but it cannot long protect him. In the end, only the presence of Jesus can sustain him in the dark hour of his grief.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
— Psalm 23:4
I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
Lord Jesus, comfort us with Your presence and with the promise of eternal life. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
