Tenderness is the touch of a mother’s hand on the fevered brow of a sick child. It’s her husband’s quiet presence in the sick room; his strong arm around her trembling shoulder, his faith expressed in wordless prayer. It’s a handwritten note from one who understands, a special scripture, a phone call. Tenderness is a shoulder to cry on in the hour of unspeakable loss. A friend who gives you time and a safe place to grieve, who comforts without resorting to clichés. Tenderness is God’s presence expressed in human form.
“But God who comforts the downcast,
— 2 Corinthians 7:6
comforted us by the coming of Titus.”
Lord Jesus, make me a “Titus” to some lonely, hurting person today. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
