Reflected giving refers to the power one person’s generosity has to inspire others. Take Lizzie Johnson for instance. At thirteen she was paralyzed in an accident and spent the next 27 years flat on her back. She wanted to do something for missions, so she sowed a quilt and tried to sell it. Nobody would buy it, so she started making bookmarks and raised $1,000 a year for missions.

One day a bishop from India was traveling through Illinois and she gave the quilt to him. He took it with him on his speaking tour and he told the story of Lizzie Johnson. Then he asked people if they would place an offering for missions on the quilt. He raised $100,000. That’s reflected giving!

“For I know your eagerness to help…and your enthusiasm has stirred most of [the Macedonians] to action.”

— 2 Corinthians 9:2 (NIV)

Lord Jesus may our generosity inspire others. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
