A young woman told her grandmother how difficult her life was and that she felt like giving up. Without a word her grandmother put three pots of water on the stove. When the water was boiling she put some carrots in one pot, an egg in another pot and some ground coffee beans in the third pot.
Although the carrots, the egg and the ground coffee beans were all subjected to boiling water they each reacted differently. The carrots became soft and weak. The egg became hard and unyielding. The coffee beans released the flavor within them and actually changed the water. The boiling water (adversity) changed the carrots and the egg. Only the coffee beans transformed the water.
When adversity strikes how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?
