My experience suggests that God most often speaks in extraordinary ways when we are going to face unusual challenges in carrying out His directions. Knowing that Peter would be breaking the tradition of a lifetime, as well as risking the disapproval of his peers, God made His will emphatically clear through a vision and providential circumstances. Had His direction been any less dramatic, Peter might not have had the courage to take the gospel to the Gentiles at Cornelius’s house.

Lord Jesus, give us the faith and the courage to obey Your voice, even if it means risking the misunderstanding and disapproval of others. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
