In our early days in ministry, we lived in a parsonage right next to the church. This made us an easy target for transients looking for a meal or money for gas. Sometimes Brenda fixed them something to eat or invited them to share a meal with us. Occasionally they used our facilities to shower and clean up. Each time we hosted someone in that situation we reminded ourselves that Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these…you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).

“Most of all, love each other…. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully.”

— 1 Peter 4:8-9 (MSG)

Lord Jesus, help us to be hospitable to everyone especially strangers. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
