Every significant event in Jesus’ ministry, from His baptism (Luke 3:21) to His death on the cross (Luke 23:34), was characterized by prayer. When it came time to choose the twelve, He spent all night in prayer (Luke 6:12). When He was transfigured and the “…appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening” (Luke 9:29) He was praying. And in Gethsemane He prayed so earnestly that “…His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:44). Even on the cross He prayed “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34).

Facing the demands of life in the 21st century dare we do any less.

“When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

— Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

Lord help us to make prayer the highest priority in our life. Amen.
