Jesus’s entire life was permeated with prayer. He prayed publicly and in private. While others slept, He arose in the pre-dawn darkness to seek the Father’s face (see Mark 1:35). Long after most people had retired for the night, He could be found on His knees praying. Often, He slipped away into the mountains to pray (see Mark 6:47), and if not into the mountains, then to Gethsemane (see Luke 22:39). It was the single most important discipline of His earthly existence and the source of His strength. If Jesus needed to pray, if prayer was a vital part of His life, then how much more should we pray?
“And he (Jesus) spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”
— Luke 18:1 (KJV)
Lord Jesus, teach us to pray. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
