I have been privileged to preach a number of conferences for ministers. I often begin the first session by asking the attendees to take a couple of minutes and look around. After they have had a chance to survey the crowd I ask, “How would you like to be God, and this is all you have to work with—us?” That usually gets a good laugh but after a moment they realize I’m serious. The truth be told most of us are not top-drawer material. Paul writes:
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are…”
— 1 Corinthians 1:27-28 (NIV)
Thank you, Lord, for choosing us. Amen.
