While in the middle of one of his most challenging spiritual battles Charles Stanley was invited to the home of an eighty-year-old widow. When he arrived, she took him into her den and showed him a painting of Daniel in the lions’ den. Then she asked him to describe what he saw. He described the lions, the bones of earlier victims, the dungeon itself, and even Daniel. Kindly she said, “You missed the most important thing. Look closely and you will see that Daniel isn’t looking at the lions. He has his eyes on God.”
If you focus on the lions, you will be tempted run away but if you focus on the Lord you will overcome.
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
— 2 Chronicles 20:12 (ESV)
Lord Jesus, teach us to pray God centered prayers rather than problem-centered prayers. Amen.
