Since anger was once a stronghold in my life, I must always be on my guard against it. Experience has taught me that if I allow myself to get mad at the driver who cuts me off in traffic, I have opened the door to anger. Soon I will be losing my temper with my family or a staff member. Instead of shaking my fist at the driver who cuts me off I now discipline myself to pray for him. I ask the Lord to relieve his stress, to protect him lest he have an accident, and to grant him peace. By praying instead of becoming angry I actually strengthen myself in the Lord.

“Dear friends, carefully build yourselves…by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right at the center of God’s love.”

— Jude 1:20-21 (MSG)

Lord help us to pray instead of getting angry. Amen.
