When asked, “What does love look like?” St. Augustine replied, “It has hands to help others. It has feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has ears to hear the sighs and sorrow of men. That is what love looks like.” I call that ‘blue-collar Christianity,’ the Gospel in shoe leather, love with its sleeves rolled up, caring enough to get involved.

“We ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters…let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”

— 1 John 3:16, 18 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, help us to roll up our sleeves and wade into life’s messiness, dispensing love no matter the risk. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
