The account of Mary and Martha teaches us that nothing is more important than our relationship with the Lord. The work that Martha was doing was important but not as important as being with Jesus. Mary sat at His feet listening to Him and Jesus concluded, “Mary has chosen what is better” (Luke 10:42). It is the Lord’s way of telling us that “being” is more important than “doing” and that relationship always comes before ministry.
“‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’”
— Luke 10:41-42
Lord Jesus, help us to always focus on our relationship with You without ignoring our work for You. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
