The believer’s right standing before God is not based on his performance but only on his faith in the finished work of Christ. Hebrews 10:14 says, “For by one sacrifice [Jesus] has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” What we do does not make us perfect, nor do our mistakes make us imperfect. Only Jesus can make us perfect and only by the sacrifice of Himself. That’s the finished work of Christ and we call it justification. He is now making us holy—that is transforming our daily walk. That’s the continuing work of Christ and we call it sanctification.
“…if a man is in Christ he becomes a new person altogether—the past is finished and gone, everything has become fresh and new. All this is God’s doing.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:18 (J.B. Phillips N.T.)
Lord Jesus continue Your holy work in us. Amen.
