We must not turn inward in search of significance, for we will never find it within ourselves. Nor do we dare turn outward, hoping to find personal validation through our achievements. There simply is not enough success in the world to satisfy the heart’s hunger for significance. Men and women created in the image of God cannot live by “bread alone.” Our search for significance ends only when we look backward to the cross and upward to the throne. Through the finished work of Jesus we have been transformed into persons of worth and dignity. We are people of significance because we are significant to God.
“We should behave like God’s very own children, adopted into the bosom of his family, and calling to him, ‘Father, Father.'”
— Romans 8:15 (TLB)
Lord help us to realize that we are significant because we are children of God. Amen.
