To Peter, Jesus was a merciful friend who knew the worst about him and still believed the best. Undoubtedly you know the story. Peter promised to die with Jesus rather deny Him. Yet he denied Jesus three times in the space of just a few hours. His shame was so great that he went out into the night and wept bitterly. As far as he was concerned his sinful failure was past forgiving. Surely the Lord would throw him out on the scrapheap of life. But Jesus had a better plan. He forgave him and restored him to ministry. What Jesus did for Peter He will do for you.

Lord forgive our sinful failures and restore us to ministry. Amen.
