The primary way God reveals Himself is through the Scriptures and any other revelation—be it a dream, a vision, or some other mystical experience—must be judged by the Scriptures. Of course, no single passage of scripture is a comprehensive revelation of God. To know the truth about God we must have a composite picture based on the whole of Scripture. When the whole of Scripture is considered there may appear to be contradictions regarding God’s character. However, upon closer examination, they are not contradictions but complimentary traits. For instance, God is both just and merciful, both infinite and intimate, all powerful and all loving.

Lord, help us to live in the Word so You can reveal yourself to us. Amen.
