Recently my wife was standing in the checkout line at the grocery store. The woman in front of her seemed nervous so Brenda asked her if she was okay. “I’m just a little concerned” she replied, “that I may not have enough money to pay for my groceries.” When she began checking out Brenda handed her credit card to the checker saying, “I would like to pay for this lady’s groceries.”
If I did something like that I would want to be noticed. Maybe you’re like that too. Jesus said,
“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 6:1 (NIV 1984)
Lord, help us to do our good deeds in secret. Amen.
