Several years ago, a desperate man came to my office for counseling. Hardly had I closed the office door before he fell to his knees sobbing. He was a good man, a Christian, and he never intended to become trapped in sexual sin, but he had. Overcoming a transgression of that magnitude isn’t easy, and he spent months battling guilt and depression. He couldn’t forgive himself, so why should he believe God would forgive him? He wanted to believe, but he didn’t dare. Forgiveness seemed too good to be true.

What about you? Are you battling a secret sin?

I said, “I will confess
my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
the guilt of my sin.

— Psalm 32:5 (IV)

Lord help us to trust Your love and forgiveness. Amen.
