In this life trouble and hardship are inevitable. The enemy wants to use those things to undermine our faith in God’s character but we don’t have to let it happen. If we know in advance what to expect we can take steps to reenforce our faith. Even as concrete sea walls are erected to prevent the erosion of the shoreline, so can we construct barriers to protect ourselves from the ravishes of trouble and disappointment. The first line of defense is an unwavering faith in the goodness of God. It must be built on nothing less than the infallible Scriptures. Exodus 34:6 says:

“The Lord God, [is] merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth…”

— Exodus 34:7 (KJV)

Lord, help us to hide Your word in our hearts to prevent the enemy from undermining our faith. Amen.
