Since my wife died some months ago, I’ve told several people that I don’t know what my future looks like. Will I serve as the pastor of a small church somewhere? Will I resume my itinerant ministry? Will I continue to write, another novel perhaps? Will I continue to live alone on Emerald Pointe, twenty-five miles from town? Will I relocate near family? The questions seem endless, and I have no answers. So why doesn’t God show me my future? Because He knows I couldn’t handle it. Because He gives us only enough grace and strength for one day at a time. I will have grace enough to handle the future, whatever it holds, when it comes but not before.

Don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

— Matthew 6:34 (MSG)

Lord help us to trust our future to You. Amen.
