Truth telling is seldom easy, but it is the key that unlocks the door to spiritual victory. As long as we deny our struggles and pretend to be something we are not, we will never be free. The person who is trapped in secret sin lives a double life. He appears to be a godly man, a faithful husband and father, but in secret, he is something else entirely. Now it is not just his sin that traps him, but his reputation as well. By pretending to have it all together, he cuts himself off from the help he so desperately needs.

“When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.”

— Psalm 32:3-4

Lord Jesus, pride tempts me to pretend I’m something I’m not. Deliver me, I pray, from my “spiritual reputation” so I can experience the freedom that comes through honest confession. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
