Few things in life are more heartbreaking than to see a person who started strong drop out before they reach the end of their race. Paul was well aware of that danger and he disciplined his body like an athlete, “Otherwise,” he said, “I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified” (1 Corinthians 9:27 NIV). As a consequence he was able to finish strong. He said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7 NIV).
What about you? Have you grown weary or are you still going strong?
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
— Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, renew our strength that we may finish strong. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
