Although Paul had a prodigious intellect, and was schooled under Gamaliel (Acts 22:3; 26:4-5), he was totally dependant on the Holy Spirit. He said, “I did not receive the gospel I preached from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ” (see Gal. 1:11-12). As a result his preaching was not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power (1 Cor. 2:2-5). He was determined that the faith of those who came to Christ under his ministry would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.
What are you depending on? Your intellect? The power of your personality? Or a demonstration of the Spirit’s power?
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”
— Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Lord Jesus fill us with the Holy Spirit and power. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
