Today is Father’s Day and I am thinking of my father. He wasn’t a man much given to words but almost everything I know about life and godliness I learned from him, not from what he said but from how he lived. He was a man of prayer and many a morning I awakened in the predawn darkness to the sound of his voice lifted in prayer. Never have I felt more loved, more secure than when I heard him call my name to the Lord in prayer.
Dad, let me ask you a question. How long has it been since your children heard you praying for them?
“This is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.”
— Philippians 1:9 (NIV 1984)
Lord help each one of us to be godly fathers. Amen.
