You can’t be close friends with everyone, none of us can. We simply do not have the time or emotional energy. No matter how much we would like to be friends with everyone, it’s simply not possible. So what can we do? We can strive to be emotionally present, to be “real” each time we interact with someone. The gift of our presence will affirm their personhood.
“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”
— Romans 12:15
